Video-Based Simulations
One of my favorite types of learning solutions to design and develop is simulations. I have developed a variety of simulations over the years including basic branching simulations featuring photos and text, complex branching simulations built using fullscreen HD video and a system dynamics, classroom-based simulation leveraging physical and virtual materials. I enjoy creating these learning experiences because they have the power to help a learner experience applying new knowledge and skills in a safe environment, often with built-in supports such as logic-based coaching. While practice in the actual performance environment is best, video-based simulations can scale to a large group of learners while helping open the door to learner transformation without the risk.
Why?
The team needed an engaging way of telling the story of our vision for learning
-
Business partners and curriculum managers struggled with articulating the organization’s vision
-
The vision represented a significant shift in learning philosophy for Cisco

-
Business stakeholders in Sales, HR and other corporate functions didn't have much time to dedicate to understanding the LTI team's vision for the future
Desired Impact
Drive engagement between business units/stakeholders and Cisco's LTI team
-
The video was used as a tool to drive engagement and facilitate conversations about new learning methods and strategies
-
Leaders, business development managers, and curriculum managers leveraged the video with their stakeholders up to Cisco's C-suite to help create a cohesive message about the change the team wanted to bring to learning at Cisco
